The Opportunity

WEUC invites applications from qualified and experienced academics for a Professor-level position in Guidance and Counselling .

The successful candidate will provide academic leadership in Guidance and Counselling while contributing actively to teaching, research, student supervision, curriculum development, and the broader academic life of the College.

We welcome academics who demonstrate a strong commitment to student development, mental and emotional wellbeing, educational guidance, research, and the professional preparation of future counsellors and education professionals.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will

Deliver engaging and high-quality lectures, seminars, tutorials, and other academic activities.

Develop, review, and enhance courses and curricula in Guidance and Counselling.

Integrate contemporary counselling theories, research, professional practices, and emerging developments into teaching and learning.

Conduct original and impactful research in Guidance and Counselling and related fields.

Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly outlets.

Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students and provide effective academic mentorship.

Mentor junior faculty members and support their academic and professional development.

Develop research collaborations with universities, schools, healthcare and social service organisations, professional bodies, and other relevant stakeholders.

Pursue opportunities for research grants, consultancy , partnerships, and community-based initiatives.

Participate actively in academic conferences, seminars, workshops, and professional development activities.

Contribute to departmental and institutional committees, quality assurance initiatives, and academic planning.

Support the continuous review and improvement of academic programmes.

Promote a welcoming, inclusive, supportive, and student-centred learning environment.

Undertake other academic and administrative responsibilities assigned by the College.

Qualification Required & Experience

Candidates must

Possess an MPhil or MSc. in Guidance and Counselling or a relevant area of specialization; a PhD is preferably required .

Have considerable teaching and research experience at a university or comparable higher education institution.

Have not less than 15 refereed publications since appointment as Lecturer .

Demonstrate a strong record of scholarly research and academic publication.

Demonstrate substantial experience teaching and supervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Demonstrate strong academic leadership, communication, interpersonal, counselling, and mentoring skills.

Show evidence of continuous professional development and engagement with current developments in Guidance and Counselling.

Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to the academic community.
